Disc size encodes the last 7 days of capture activity, in three steps. The map answers "what is alive right now?" before you read a single name — a list can only sort by it.
Layout is seeded by thread id — deterministic, stable across launches, no physics jitter. Work gravitates upper-right, Personal lower-left. Your hands learn where threads live.
Hairlines join threads that share captures, with the shared count at the midpoint. Provenance is fact, not AI — so edges are neutral white. Periwinkle stays reserved for derived notes and gists.
The Daily hub wears its corona, orbiting motes, and the UNFILED chip only while captures wait. File the last one and the amber extinguishes live. The signal never lies.
Press a node ~450ms: it swells, a red ring grows, the rest of the universe dims to 20%, the label flips to RELEASE TO RECORD. Slide off before releasing to cancel. Same red, same meaning as everywhere else in the app.
File one capture into two threads and, back on the map, a new edge draws itself in — the universe visibly rewires. And because spatial maps scan worse than lists, LIST (bottom-right) flattens everything into a plain ranked list. The hatch is part of the design.
