Local-first voice notes for iPhone

Think out loud.

Speak, and LiveThoughts turns it into a timestamped, searchable record — transcribed on your phone, filed into the threads you are already thinking in. Nothing leaves the device.

“Call the dentist about the crown — they close at 5.”

A capture · Jul 5 · 9:52 AM · Serif means spoken — your words, word for word.

The core idea

One capture, many threads.

A capture is stored once — immutable, timestamped, verbatim. Threads are views into it. File the same thought into your essay, your to-do list, and your journal without copying anything. Delete a thread; the capture survives.

ONE CAPTURE stored once · 9:52 AM Story Ideas Daily · Jul 5 Substack Article

Immutable

Captures never change after the moment you speak them. Editing happens downstream, in notes.

Timestamped

Every thought keeps its moment. The transcript reads like a record because it is one.

Shared, not copied

Assign a capture to five threads and there is still exactly one capture.

How it works

Speak. Read it back. Let it organize.

01

Speak

Swipe a thread right and talk. WhisperKit or Apple’s on-device dictation transcribes as you go, and the audio is discarded the moment the text lands.

02

A thread's transcript view: the raw capture set in serif, with a lock note reading 'Your raw transcript is always preserved' and an 'also in Daily' chip

The transcript

Every capture joins an immutable, timestamped transcript — set in serif because it is your voice, verbatim. It is the source of truth. Nothing rewrites it.

03

A thread's note view: an on-device thread summary above an organized markdown note with a link back to the transcript

The note

Apple Intelligence organizes each thread into a note, on-device — timeline or Idea Web — with citations that point back to the verbatim transcript. Notes are derived; regenerate them anytime, the transcript stays.

Search matches notes and transcripts alike

The daily · triage

Quick thoughts land somewhere amber.

Not every thought knows where it belongs yet. The Daily catches it, and an amber cue marks it unfiled until you triage it into a thread — one tap, no ceremony. In the meantime, every word is already searchable.

  • Capture first, decide later
  • Amber cues surface whatever is unfiled
  • Full-text search across notes and transcripts

Two homes

The Deck and the Constellation.

Two ways to hold the same threads. The Deck ranks them by recency — what is current sits on the desk, the rest settles into the pile. The Constellation lays them out in space, with shared captures drawing edges between nodes.

The Deck home: Daily pinned on top, recent threads on the desk, older threads in the pile

The Deck

Recency as physical depth. Swipe any thread right to record straight into it.

The Constellation home: threads as glowing nodes on a spatial map, connected by shared captures

The Constellation

Threads as a spatial map. Tap a node and start talking, instantly.

Interactive concepts

See it move.

Two self-running concept mockups, straight from the design process. Open one and press PLAY FLOW — it walks itself through the whole idea, or take over and explore by hand.

Concept mockups run best on a desktop browser or a phone in portrait. They are sketches of the idea, not the shipping app.

Local-first

Private by architecture.

Not a policy promise — a design constraint. There is no server to trust because there is no server.

On-device transcription
WhisperKit or Apple’s dictation, running on the phone’s silicon. Audio is never uploaded.
Audio discarded
Once the text lands, the recording is gone. What remains is text you can read, search, and export.
No accounts, no cloud
There is no sign-in screen. Airplane mode is a supported configuration.
On-device intelligence
Notes are organized by Apple Intelligence on the device. When it is unavailable, your transcript is untouched and everything else still works.

Your next thought deserves a place to land.
